Bronchitis is an inflammation of the bronchial tubes

Bronchitis is an inflammation of the bronchial tubes, the part of the respiratory system that leads into the lungs. There are two types of bronchitis -- acute bronchitis and chronic bronchitis. Bronchitis may also be caused by bacterial infections. It may occur with childhood illnesses such as measles and whooping cough. Bronchitis usually begins with a dry cough, including waking the sufferer at night. After a few days it progresses to a wetter or productive cough, which may be accompanied by fever, fatigue, and headache.

Bronchitis may be indicated by an expectorating cough (also known as a productive cough, i.e. Occasionally chest pains , fever , and fatigue or malaise may also occur. Bronchitis means swelling in your air passages (bronchi). Bronchi are the air passages that connect your windpipe (trachea) with tiny air sacs (alveoli) in your lungs. Bronchitis is contagious and can be spread by direct or indirect contact.

Bronchitis occurs when the lining airways in the lungs gets inflamed and begins making too much mucus. When this happens, you must cough to clear out the extra mucus. Bronchial inflammation can be severe; cough and bronchial spasms are treated with antihistamines, cough suppressants, and bronchodilators. Antibiotics are used if there is evidence of bacterial invasion. Bronchitis usually starts with some upper respiratory infection or exposure to an irritating substance. Poor diet, digestion and elimination can create an internal environment in the bronchial area that allows infection to more easily occur.

Bronchitis, if left on its own, can result in various more major conditions and afflictions, chiefly pneumonia. That is why, again you should always ensure to get yourself checked out if you have bronchitis or other chest pains or signs. Bronchitis Symptoms include the inflammation of the windpipe and bronchial tubes, after a bout of cold or flu. It is commonly caused by a virus; less often, bacteria; and even more rarely a fungus. Bronchitis comes in two forms. The first form is acute bronchitis.

Bronchial tubes produce mucus under normal circumstances, this mucus covers the trachea, lungs and other organs in the respiratory system. Nonetheless, in the existence of irritants, an overproduction of mucus occurs, which consequently obstructs the airways. Bronchitis and pneumonia has some of the same symptoms so therefore, many people believe that treating bronchitis and pneumonia will also share some of the same remedies. This theory is true up to a point, but you have to understand first the type of bronchitis and pneumonia that you might have.

Bronchitis can be categorized into two types: acute bronchitis, which does not last more than six weeks; and chronic bronchitis, which recurs frequently for over two years. Plus, people afflicted with asthma also have inflammation of the bronchial tube lining, which is known as asthmatic bronchitis. Bronchitus is a pain in the butt, and youre generally sick for a while. Either way, let it take its course and you'll feel better soon enough. Bronchitis and pneumonia are not directly contagious, but the germ that caused the original cold or upper respiratory infection may be. This is why some children (and staff) in a child care setting may get very sick from the same respiratory germ, others just get mildly ill and still others don’t get ill at all.
