Chronic bronchitis can lead to heart failure

Chronic bronchitis can lead to heart failure, the skin turns bluish color because of not enough oxygen in the blood, and Edema. Edema is a condition where excessive fluid is stored in the human body. Chronic bronchitis is most common in countries where smoking is prevalent. Passive smoking, or exposure to secondhand smoke, also increases a person's risk for chronic bronchitis. Chronic bronchitis is the most common condition in the category of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It has been estimated that 14 to 15 million persons in the United States have COPD and that of those, 12 million have chronic bronchitis.

Chronic bronchitis is a permanent inflammation and thickening of the walls of your bronchial tubes. Eventually, the tubes narrow, causing shortness of breath and a constant cough that brings up large amounts of mucus.

Chronic bronchitis is not contagious. Chronic bronchitis, like lung disease and emphysema , is a serious long-term disorder that requires regular medical treatment. Chronic lung conditions and asthma may be aggravated by RSV infection. Infants, children, the elderly, and individuals with heart or respiratory problems or a weakened immune system are at increased risk of pneumonia and other complications from RSV infection.

Chronic bronchitis occurs when the bronchial tubes become irritated and inflamed, decreasing the amount of air that can flow in and out of the lungs. If the bronchial tubes have been irritated for a long time, then excess mucus is produced, the tubes thicken and an irritating cough develops. Chronic bronchitis is an inflammation of the lungs that leads to swelling of the lungs and constriction of the airways. Emphysema is also an inflammation of the lungs leading to swelling that stretches and eventually breaks the walls in between the air sacs. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (emphysema and chronic bronchitis) is also now recognized as being associated with osteoporosis and fractures even in the absence of glucocorticoid therapy.

Chronic bronchitis is one of a group of lung diseases called COPD, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Bronchitis is an inflammation (swelling) of the lining of the air passages in your lungs. Chronic bronchitis refers to long-standing inflammation of the bronchial tree accompanied by deep cough and sputum production. Prolonged or recurrent injury to the lining causes irreversible damage to the bronchial walls.
